As
predicted with the legalization of homosexual marriage, the LGBT agenda is
driving on full force and seemingly, nothing is off limits. The Democrat led
House recently passed the radical and highly controversial, Equality Act of
2019: which among other things, seeks to criminalize any discrimination against
homosexuals or individuals identifying as transgender. This includes denying
transgender men the right to use the restroom of their choice or preventing
them from competing in women’s sports. If passed, this law would outlaw
conversion therapy, which has been successfully used to change peoples unwanted
sexual attractions[1]
by classifying it as a form of discrimination. Civil rights law has
traditionally protected marginalized groups who have suffered discrimination
based on characteristics beyond their control, such as race or sex.[2]
This marks the first time that individuals identifying as an imaginary gender will
be afforded federally protected status. Finally, the left claims that passing
this bill is necessary because people in the LGBT community suffer higher rates
of mental illness and suicide compared to the general population. Is this true?
If so, why? Will this bill help those in the LGBT community, or will it ultimately
cause them more harm?
According
to a study conducted by BMC Psychiatry,[3]people in the LGBT community are at greater risk of mental health issues and
suicidal behavior due to anti-gay bigotry and social stigmas. While the rates
of suicide and mental health issues may be higher, there is research that suggests
that it isn’t due to bigotry at all but confusion from exposure to the
alternative lifestyle all-together. According to The American Journal of Public
Health,[4] gender non-conformity, exposure to the homosexual lifestyle to early in
development and early childhood sexual experiences are contributing factors to the
high suicide rates among LGBT people. This study goes on to say that many
children are being taught that they are born that way, which makes it
increasingly difficult to change their behavior.
Prior
studies of bisexual/ homosexual male adolescents have found that increased
rates of suicide attempts were not universal, but were associated with
particular risk factors, such as self-identification as homosexual at younger
ages, substance abuse, female gender role, family dysfunction, interpersonal
conflict regarding sexual orientation, and nondisclosure of sexual orientation
to others. Perhaps the link between bisexuality/homosexuality and suicide is
mediated by such characteristics as gender nonconformity, which may affect
males more adversely than females. (Remafedi,
French, Story, Resnick & Blum)
States across the country have been enforcing the
teaching of homosexuality and transgenderism as part of their health education
classes. This is being done under the guise of anti-bullying programs. States
like California are prohibiting parents from opting their children out of such
programs.[5] California has also passed a resolution forcing Christian pastors to publicly
embrace the homosexual/transgender agenda[6]
against their religious convictions. Former head of the National Association of
Evangelicals and current pastor for Pacific University, Dr. Kevin Mannoia has
testified in favor of the measure and is directing others to ignore their
traditional views on Biblical sexuality while also insisting that they deny
those in search of counseling services such as conversion therapy. He insists
that because Christ calls us to love one another we must be accepting of those
who live this lifestyle. Is Dr. Mannoia and those following his lead
contributing to the higher suicide rates by going along with this agenda?
Writing for the Washington Times, Dr. Everett
Piper.[7] former president of Oklahoma Wesleyan University states that Christians have a
moral duty to resist this agenda. Christ has indeed called on us to love one another;
however, considering the higher rates of suicide and the evidence provided by The
American Journal of Public Health, loving one another and being accepting would
mean doing everything possible to bring people to Christ, not lead them down a
path to ruin. Piper says that showing tolerance is not the same as showing
love. “Christian
obedience demands we love people enough to lead them to repentance and
confession. Love is not synonymous with tolerance, and tolerance is not
synonymous with love. Love cares deeply. Tolerance couldn’t care less.” (Piper,
June 30, 2019)
This
agenda is going to drive on. The next big horizon for the LGBT movement is the normalization
of pedophilia and lowering the age of consent laws.[8]Just as many Christians warned when homosexual marriage was legalized, the
normalization of such behavior has led to a never-ending push for special
rights and the protections of behaviors which are harmful to the human soul. If
we as Christians sit back and let this destructive behavior become codified in law,
we are contributing to the consequences as well. If the research by the AJPH is
correct, silence on the issue will equate to complicity.
If anyone causes one of these little ones,
those who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large
millstone hung around their neck and be drowned in the depths of the sea.
